Letter from the Artistic Director

Happy April Everybody! We are fast approaching our last Mainstage play of our 79th season, the very
entertaining Bordertown Cafe, followed by our season ending musical,
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Boy, this season has zipped by faster than the collapse of my NCAA Basketball Tournament

But, coming up even before our final two productions
of this season is the announcement of our exciting 2012-2013 80th Anniversary Season! You can look for our season announcement to arrive via a SPECIAL REPorter, sometime during the second week of April, just about the same time most of you will be finding our season brochure in your mail box. And for those not on our regular mailing list we will include a downloadable season brochure in the upcoming SPECIAL REPorter, so no worries there.

Enjoy the spring weather. Before you know it we'll be complaining about the heat and wishing for a blast of cold, lake effect snow. Okay maybe we won't.

Set in a Canadian café, 17 year-old Jimmy and his family carry on a loud and hilarious commentary on our cultural differences as Jimmy and his mother Marlene navigate the difficult waters of teen/parent relations. Wise words from Grandpa and wisecracks from Grandma help Jimmy make the toughest decision he has faced in his short life.

Theatre Manners and Advice

with Entertainment Etiquette ExpertWilma Seatsbetaken

S. Spielberg from Swanton writes...Dear Wilma, I've done some directing in the past, mostly small films here and there, but I'm thinking about throwing my chapeau into the arena of directing for stage. How does one go about being considered to direct for The Toledo Repertoire Theatre?

Dear S. Its great timing that you ask this question as The Rep is just about to announce their 80th Anniversary 2012-2013 season of shows, and I have it on very good authority that they are actively seeking candidates to direct for next season. To be considered simply drop Steve Burnette an email at sburnette@toledorep.org and he'll be in contact with all interested individuals. But please understand, they don't just hire any yahoo off the street who may have directed a small film here and there, so hopefully you've got something else in your arsenal that'll impress. And good luck!

Do you have a question for Wilma?  Please drop Wilma a line at Wilma@toledorep.org and perhaps your question will be published and answered in our next e-Newsletter.

Useless Theatre Trivia

Stephen Sondhiem's most commercially successful song of all time, recorded by hundreds of performers
over the years was written overnight during out of town tryouts for the musical A Little Night Music. That song was Send in The Clowns.

Contest?  Did someone say Contest?

Last month's misspelled word was "impecable".  Congratulations to those of you who pointed it out, you know who you are.  And your name is now in our special "hopper" for an end-of-the-year drawing of a special prize package chosen especially for you. Can you spot this month's misspelled word?

A Note

Congratulations to our very own Judson Lohman, The Toledo Rep's winner of our graphic design contest
held earlier this season. You'll see Judson's handy-work soon on the upcoming 80th Anniversary show posters as well as the layout of our soon-to-be released 80th Anniversary Season Brochure! Thank you to all who participated in this contest.
