Letter from the President

April 1, 2015

Dear Theatre Friends,

Happy April Fools' Day! Do you have pranks to pull? Maybe a joke or two to tell? Is there a planned hoax in your future? It is no hoax that the Rep has some great shows coming up this spring. Our cadre of fools (another term for actors, of course) has shows to tickle your funny bone and warm your heart!

Director F. Scott Regan and his merry band have been hard at work on The Taming of the Shrew. Shakespeare's classic comedy gets an art deco spin in this high concept, hilariously staged production. Starring as the "sword-crossed" lovers, Matt Kizaur (Petruchio) and Alexandra Scarborough (Katharina) bring the show to life with their physical humor and well-pointed barbs. The Rep is glad to welcome Alexandra back to the stage after a far too lengthy absence. The other cast members include Sara Young, Matthew Gretzinger, Jon Masters, Logan Hunter, Alex Eding, Sir King Castro, Megan Beckett, Courtney Steele, Jim Ellis, Lisa Wells, Youseff Baddar, Laura Crawford, Meghan Koesters, and Anne Marie Franz. The talented production team includes Cheri Kizaur (Stage manager), Rose Perry (Technical Manager), Paul Alday (Set Designer), Marcus Sherrel (Lighting Designer), Derek Hansen (Sound Designer), Erin Chandler (Costume Designer), Jamie Naragon (Props Mistress), and Andrew McPherson (Master Painter). Please join us April 10-19 for this rollicking, roisterous comedy.

Look for laughs, laughs, and more laughs as the Rep presents its first ever improv show on Friday, May 15. The local improvisational troupe, Gross Domestic Product, will bring their unique blend of humor and controlled chaos to the Rep stage for two performances, a family-friendly show at 7:30 p.m. and a more adult evening at 10:00 p.m. If you like Whose Line Is It Anyway?, you will love the humor of this 3-man troupe. Our evening of improv is a fund-raiser for the Rep to help us continue our excellent programming. Look for more information in a Special REPorter coming soon.

The cast and production team of South Pacific is getting ready to take you on a romantic journey to the South Seas. Director James M. Norman and Music Director Josh Glover have assembled a very talented cast of singers, dancers, and actors to bring this beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein classic to life. Rep veterans Michael Searle and Lindsey Denham play Emile DeBeque and Nellie Forbush, the beautiful couple from disparate backgrounds who find love and loss in a tropical paradise. Make plans for an "enchanted evening" June 5-21.

It's time for a spring fling-a little laughter, a little romance, and a lot of fun-with the Rep!

Theatrically yours,

Amy Spaulding-Heuring
President, Toledo Repertoire Theatre
