Dear Friends of the Rep,
Welcome to summer! I'm sure many of you are swimming, going on vacation, and enjoying lemonade on your front porch. Those pastimes sound absolutely delightful, especially if you've spent your summer at the theatre. Although, our delight has been presenting some marvelous youth theatre to our audiences.
Congratulations go out to the cast, crew, directors, and production team of Jekyll and Hyde on a great show! Everyone was committed to the success of a very mature and sophisticated production. While every production has its challenges, the cast and crew rose to the occasion. We are so proud of our young performers and production team members. They are the future of the Rep.
Hot on the heels of JH is the Young Rep production of Bugsy Malone, Jr., a musical with our youngest performers, ages 7-13. Join us as we go back to the time of speakeasies and tommy guns... Oops...I mean soda shoppes, silly string, and some great music by Paul Williams. Director Jill Reinstein and her talented team have been singing, dancing, building, and painting to get the show ready for performances on August 7-10. We hope you can join these young people for an evening of fun.
We're also getting ready for our 2014-2015 season, a season of wonderful classics. Everything old is new again at the Rep this year starting with The Pirates of Penzance. Director Deb Calabrese and conductor David Jex have cast some wonderful singers and performers to bring this Gilbert and Sullivan operetta to our stage. We are partnering with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Ann Arbor for this production. It's great to have a new collegial relationship with such an influential artistic partner.
Before I sign off for the month, there are some very special folks I need to thank on behalf of the Rep. First of all, thanks to Eric Hillenbrand for his leadership over the last year. His work to bring us a capital improvement grant from the state will serve us well for many years. We wish Eric great success in all his future professional and artistic endeavors. Lastly, three members are leaving the board, Deb Brescol, Patti Wardrop, and past-president Brad Smith. We will miss their volunteerism, guidance, and commitment to the Rep. Their love of our theatre should and will be emulated by present and future board members. For Eric, Brad, Patti, and Deb, we send our heartfelt gratitude today and always.
We hope you all enjoy the delights of summer....and take a little time to enjoy the delights on our stage!
