Letter from the President

Dear Theatre Colleagues,

December is a month of preparation. For many of us, we "shop 'til we drop" then wrap gifts for family and friends.  We may decorate our homes with garland, mistletoe, and, of course, the family Christmas tree. Our Jewish friends ready their hearts for Hannukah, the Festival of Lights. Our Christian friends prepare for the birth of Christ in this season of Advent. The Rep has been carefully preparing for our holiday gift to Toledo, A Christmas Carol.

This year's production has a much-needed technical update thanks to The Andersons and dedicated volunteers. The Andersons gave us a generous sponsorship that allowed us to make necessary repairs to our set, purchase and renovate the costumes, and update our props and set pieces. Chip Eddy, Rose Perry, Mark McGovern, Kathy McGovern, Eileen Eddy, Jamie Naragon, and her student crew spent countless hours repairing Scrooge's home and the city of London. Costumer James M. Norman created new dresses for Melinda Cratchit and Fan, along with purchasing new frock coats for the men's ensemble. The entire production of A Christmas Carol is now truly dressed in its "holiday best."

Our eighty-member cast and top-notch production team have been hard at work to create entertaining and inspiring performances. Deb Calabrese and David Jex return to helm to the show. Paul Causman and Heath Huber reprise their roles as Ebenezer Scrooge and Bob Cratchit, respectively. We also have some new faces in the cast: David Daniel Scott as Mr. Fezziwig, Katie Driscoll as Mrs. Fezziwig, and Jennifer Braun as Millie, to name just a few. Patrick Barrett joins us this season as vocal director. We return to the beautiful, historic Valentine Theatre for three joyful performances on December 5, 6, 7. Call 419-242-2787 for tickets. We hope you and your family can join us for this Toledo holiday tradition.

Do your kids need some winter fun? The Rep's education wing can help with two adventurous happenings. Auditions will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 1:00 p.m. for the Young Rep production, The Very Unmerry Adventures of Robin Hood. Directed by Jill Reinstein, this high-energy show has many roles for your talented young performers. Do your children have stars in their eyes? Consider signing them up for Rep Ed classes in January. The classes will meet on eight consecutive Saturdays from January 10 through February 28. The young performers will work on acting skills, movement, and singing. Each session culminates with a performance showcase for family and friends. Let your children experience the thrill of theatre this winter season!

The New Year will ring in the classic, Blithe Spirit, by Noel Coward. Under the direction of Matthew Gretzinger, his other-wordly cast, Kendra Beitzel (Edith), Marissa Rex (Ruth),Matt Kizaur (Charles), John Corcoran (Dr. Bradman), Kate Argow (Mrs. Bradman), Cindy Bilby (Madam Arcati), and Kate Abu-Absi (Elvira) will create an ethereal evening of entertainment. Make plans January 16-25 to see this supernatural comedy.

We hope your holidays are filled with joy and wonder. The Rep sends you and your family our best wishes for the happiest of holiday seasons!

Theatrically yours,

Amy Spaulding-Heuring
President, Toledo Repertoire Theatre
