Letter from the President
Dear Theatre Colleagues,
When you think about February, what comes to mind? Snow? Love? The Super Bowl? May I suggest falling in love with the Rep this month? Forego the snow and join us in our warm theatre for some exciting productions-even more exciting than "deflate-gate."
What could be a more romantic way than to spend Valentine's Day at the theatre with the one you love? We have the perfect evening planned. After a lovely dinner at any of our local downtown restaurants (like our advertising partners Manhattan's, Georgio's, or The Blarney), join us for our Valentine's Day week-end Special Event, All Aboard the Marriage Hearse, helmed by Irina Zaurov in her Rep directing debut. Amy (played by Elizabeth Cottle) and Sean (played by Tanner DuVall) have been living together for nearly three years. Now the moment of truth has arrived-to date happily-ever-after, break-up, or climb aboard "the marriage hearse." Playwright Matt Morillo has written a sharp, modern script about relationships in the 21st century. Join us Friday, Saturday, February 13 & 14, or Sunday, February 15 for this mature, contemporary comedy.
One of the greatest gifts you can give a child is love and appreciation of the performing arts. We have a wonderful show that will fit the bill-The Very UnMerry Adventures of Robin Hood, directed by Jill Reinstein. This rollicking comedy, by Patrick Greene and Jason Pizzarello, pits Robin Hood and his dimwitted Merry Men against the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham who wants to destroy Sherwood Forest. Will Robin and his band win an archery tournament, a talent contest, and even a beauty pageant to save their beloved woods? Bring the children in your life to find out the conclusion of this entertaining retelling of a classic story on Friday and Saturday, February 27, 28, and Sunday, March 1.
The first production that introduced me to the love of live theatre was Shakespeare's Pyramus and Thisbe, Theseus' and Hippolyta's wedding entertainment in A Midsummer Night's Dream. From the moment I took the stage in that production, I was hooked for life. If being on stage is a dream of yours, consider auditioning for Shakespeare's boisterous battle of the sexes, The Taming of the Shrew, directed Dr. F. Scott Regan, Professor Emeritus of Theatre from Bowling Green State University. Audition dates are Saturday and Sunday, February 7 & 8 beginning at 1:00 p.m. Please call 419-243-9277 to set up a 30 minute audition time. All audition scenes are available at toledorep.org. We hope to see some new faces and old friends next week-end!
Enjoy love, football, and theatre in February! Keep warm!
Happy Theatre New Year,
President, Toledo Repertoire Theatre
All Aboard the Marriage Hearse
February 13, 14, 15
After nearly three years together, Amy wants to get married but Sean does not believe in the institution. Tonight is the night when they will settle the question once and for all. Will they break up? Will they keep going? Will they climb aboard the "Marriage Hearse"
Mature subject matter.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Ann Veasey. She was the long-time house manager for The Village Players, who passed away last week. She was a dedicated volunteer and long-time member of the theatre. Our thoughts and prayers go out to The Village Players and Ann's extended theatre family.
