Letter from the President

June 1, 2015

Dear Theatre Friends,

"You say good-bye, and I say hello; Hello, hello! I don't know why you say good-bye, I say hello..."

-  The Beatles

The month of June has traditionally been a time of good-byes and hellos. We say good-bye the comfort of kindergarten naps, tables, and extra recess and hello to 1st grade with real student desks in straight rows and the beginning of homework. Fast forward to us leaving behind junior high school with smiling friends, school dances in the gym, and passing notes to the challenges of high school. There are then the graduations from high school and college-saying good-bye to one phase of life and hello to another. In June, the Rep says good-bye to its mainstage season and hello to the Young Rep summer season. We will say a fond farewell to our loyal staff and board members and a hearty welcome to our new folks. June is a month of change, so let's see what's in store.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific opens this Friday, June 5 and runs through June 21 on the 10th Street stage. Director James M. Norman and his gifted production team (Josh Glover-music director, Brian Rodabaugh-choreographer, Jeremy Allen-lighting and set designer, Karen Landrus-stage manager) have assembled an amazing cast who will bring to life this classic musical of love, loss, and friendship set against the backdrop of World War II. We hope you join us for this special show. In July and August, the Young Rep will be performing to very special musicals. Our youngest performers (ages 7-13) will be presenting Dear Edwina, Junior on July 16, 17, 18, 19. Our teen performers (ages 14-19) will present another Rodgers and Hammerstein favorite, State Fair, on August 6, 7, 8, 9. Say hello and good-bye to summer by joining us for all these fabulous shows.

One of the saddest parts of June in school was saying good-bye to our dear friends as we left for summer vacation. As June arrives at the Rep, we need to say good-bye to some very important people who have been integral to our success. First, we say good-bye to Rick Bush, our Production Manager for the 2014-2015 season. We appreciate Rick's work on our new internship program and his leadership during the production meetings this past season. We wish him well as he continues to help Children's Theatre Workshop expand and grow. Secondly, we say farewell to several board members-Cheri Kizaur (past treasurer), Nick Morgan (past treasurer), and Elizabeth Cottle (season selection, director/designer selection, and marketing committee). Cheri, Nick, and Elizabeth have been dedicated and committed board members. Through their work, they have made the Rep a stronger organization and helped perpetuate our success through their efforts and artistry. We wish them all the best.

We also greet new friends of the Rep to help carry on our tradition of excellence. Rose Perry, technical manager and master carpenter on a number of shows this past season, has been promoted to Technical Director for 2015-2016. Rose's energy, work ethic, and willingness to learn are unparalleled. We are certain our productions will be better because of her attention to detail. The Toledo Rep Board of Trustees is proud to introduce three new board members to our ranks. We would like to welcome Adrian Hoffer, Sarah Sobel-Poage, and Gayle Young. All three have exceptional backgrounds in communication. They will bring fresh ideas and great vigor to our organization. Best wishes to our departing staff and board members! Congratulations to our new staff and board members!

As our 2014-2015 season ends, we are on the cusp of a new season with exciting productions. We hope you become a season subscriber and join us for another fabulous, ground-breaking season of shows. With that, it is time for me to say good-bye, as well. A new president will say hello on July 1. My term as president will end with elections on Monday, June 8; on June 30, I will also leave board after seven years. I would like to thank Kathy McGovern and Anita Crane for their support and expertise; I couldn't finish the REPorter without you! I would also like to thank the board for their trust. Lastly, I would especially like to thank my family and friends for their love and patience with all this "theatre stuff." I hope I have made the Rep a better place to learn, perform, and grow.

Theatrically yours,

Amy Spaulding-Heuring
President, Toledo Repertoire Theatre
