March 2015

Letter from the President

Dear Theatre Friends,

March is a month of transition. Old Man Winter takes his last gasps before Mother Nature leaves spring in his wake. We start changing the colors of our wardrobe from grays and blacks to khakis and pastels. And the Rep begins its transition to the 2015-2016 season. The season selection committee has been hard at work scouring scripts for another year of great shows. Look for their announcement soon!

Our first Young Rep production of 2015, The Very UnMerry Adventures of Robin Hood, opened this past week-end to appreciative audiences. Congratulations to director Jill Reinstein, technical director Rose Perry, the cast, crew, parents, and production team for a very successful week-end. The Rep is so proud of our Young Rep and Rep Ed programs for giving the opportunity to our future actors (directors and designers) to perform in a nurturing and professional environment. Our upcoming YR productions include Dear Edwina, Junior (ages 7-13) and State Fair (ages 14-19) will be holding auditions later this spring. Keep checking our website for details.

March also means new Rep Ed classes. Our spring session, "It's a Wonderful World," will begin on Saturday, March 21. We also have a few need-based scholarships thanks to the Toledo Police Patrolman's Association. Please contact our Business Manager, Kathy McGovern, during regular business hours for details.

Two more new shows are getting ready to take the stage later this spring.  The Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare's classic battle of the sexes, will be performed in April. Director F. Scott Regan has assembled a cast full of fresh faces and seasoned performers in a high concept production set in the 1920's. If you are tired of the cold weather, take a trip to the tropics by auditioning for the Rep's spring musical South Pacific on Sunday, March 15. Directed by James M. Norman, South Pacific promises to add to the Rep's tradition of great musicals. Audition information is available on our website, www.toledorep.org.

We close out March with another fine production in our Edgy Rep series. Jeffrey J. Albright is directing the profound and powerful The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Stephen A. Guirgis. Judas Iscariot is on trial for his transgressions. With testimony from witnesses from Satan to Mother Teresa, his fate will be decided. The production will be performed at Studio A at the Valentine Theatre on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21 at 8:00 p.m. We hope you can join us for a compelling evening of theatre.

Finally, as we look toward the 2015-2016 season, we are looking to you. We are reaching out to bring some new members to our board. If you have experience in development, fund-raising, entrepreneurship, marketing, etc., you would be an excellent candidate. Also, if you are someone who loves the Rep and wants to see it grow and succeed for another 82 seasons, we would like you, too. Please fill out and return the application to the Rep by April 15. New board members will be announced in the May REPorter.

I wish you all warmth and calm in this season of change.

Theatrically yours,

Amy Spaulding-Heuring
President, Toledo Repertoire Theatre
