Running for the Rep Wrap Up

Glass City MarathonI was set to participate in The Glass City Marathon on April 22nd. A few folks pledged a certain amount of money that was to be split between The Rep and The Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank as long as I finished the entire marathon.

Well much to my chagrin, for the first time in six marathons I had to drop out near mile 14, as the entire left-hand side of my body went numb. There was concern of a possible stroke, but after a myriad of tests it was determined that my official diagnosis was a small glitch in my giddy-up. Before my CT scan I told the technician if they wanted to see if I had anything between my ears I could just show them my high school SAT scores.

After sharing the news with the fine folks that pledged their support, I am happy to report that they insisted their initial pledge still be put to the cause despite my failing efforts. So my sincere thanks to Jon Cofield, Susan McCann, Jeffrey Albright, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Sam and Robin Rayner. Because of your financial help some children enjoyed a meal that they might not have been so fortunate to have without your generosity.

On another positive and somewhat ironic note, a couple days after my debacle at The Glass City Marathon I received confirmation that my application was one of the lucky ones drawn this year for the New York City Marathon in November. So if I play my cards right, maybe the right side of my body will go numb this time.

Thanks again to those who donated for the cause. You have my deep appreciation.
